I'm not gonna lie
Participating in outdoor art shows is not for the weak of heart, or body, or mind for that matter. It’s overwhelming, maybe unless you are a pro at it (honestly, they make it look easy!). It takes countless hours to get ready, especially if you have an unorganized brain like I do! Then there’s getting everything to fit in the van, (after raising three kids and saying I would never drive a van, now that they are grown, I now drive a van!?!) and setting up the tent, and deciding where the art should go…
But then comes the art show, where you get to meet other artists, and collectors, and random people who stop by the booth just to chat. I love that part. And then if you get sales, well that’s super fun! It’s great to feel the reward of all the work by having someone fall in love with a piece of your work, let’s be honest, it’s more like a piece of your soul. But all that work and you may sell very little, or even nothing. Then you have to rebuild your confidence all over again and decide if it’s even worth it. Luckily I had a decent couple of weekends and sold several pieces at the Rehoboth Art League Outdoor Fine Art Show and made some great connections, but the jury is still out whether outdoor art shows are the thing for me. Maybe not, but in the meantime I am learning along the way, and I guess that’s all that matters for now. It’s part of my journey to becoming an artist and I am soaking it all in.
I have two more shows coming up this year, and then I will step back and decide what should be the plan for 2020. Or maybe it will just unfold naturally…
Anyway, here are a few photos from the show, and the set-up too…and a little video, too…
