Who are you and where are you from?
I’m Shelby Dillon. Oh goodness, this is a complicated question. I am currently living in sunny St. Petersburg, FL, but we have lived all over the world—from Singapore, to Australia and Brazil. Originally I grew up on Hilton Head Island in the Lowcountry of SC.
Is creating art your passion and/or your profession?
Yes! This is my full-time job. I have been painting for over 10 years, and love that I get to do this as my job.
How did you get into doing it?
I always loved art, but I tried to be practical, so I was originally in finance. Once I met artists that were doing this for a living, I decided I was going to figure it out, no matter what.
What is your driving force?
My driving force is to bring more beauty and joy into this world. I want to create something that my collectors can experience everyday and have it bring them joy.
What is your current inspiration?
My current inspiration is color—fun color palettes that work together and really speak to a joyful mood.
What kind of work you do and why?
I paint colorful coastal-inspired scenes.
Is there something fun that’s currently inspiring you?
We had a workshop where we all painted colorful cows. So right now I'm taking that into mini color studies, and just really having a ball experimenting with color.
