Feeling sticky?
It’s an awful feeling. That feeling that what you are doing/thinking/creating isn’t “enough,” or that maybe a creative block is lurking just around the corner just waiting to sneak up on you when you least expect it. But I always feel, if I pay really close attention, I can keep one step ahead of it. You can’t really ignore it, but you can do your best to stay out in front of it.
What I do when this sticky feeling lurks is to
Do something mindless, something with no pressure. Preping panels, cleaning the studio, doing laundry :)
Go outside and explore, maybe a long walk with a friend, or a visit to see your favorite farm animals, maybe a yoga class, or often ice cream has been helpful for this my entire life!
Or, do something creative that is out of your norm. Just explore with no expection of yourself. Play with those supplies that have been tucked away since college, let yourself make a complete mess. Just play and enjoy the childhood joy of creating.
As always, this applies to art and to life, right? What do you to to stay a step ahead of sticky?
The painting above was created while dancing in front of sticky...with acrylic, and I loved the process and it shows...
