On my nightstand

I don’t get time to read nearly as much as I’d like to, but I don’t see that as a reason to stop buying books! I read multiple books at the same time (because multitasking is a thing I can’t seem to get away from?).

So these are my current favs, all at different stages of my attention.

  • 101 Essays that will change the way you think by Brianna Wiest. This is a great book to read before sleeping because it puts your thoughts in order and helps you think about things in a straight line. This will be one that I read many, many times!

  • The Untethered Soul, the journey beyond yourself by Michael A Singer is one that I recently finished. Deepak Chopra says “read this book carefully and you will get more than a glimpse of eternity.” It’s all about transforming your relationship with yourself and the world…and who doesn’t need a dose of that?

  • Art Supplies, ingredients of creativity by Janine Vangool of Uppercase Magazine. It’s a beautifully delicious book about art supplies and makers…and one that I’d envision being in something like this someday!

  • Learning by Heart, teaching to free the creative spirit by Corita Kent and Jan Steward. This is next up for me to read because I do teach and it’s a subject I’d like to learn much more about!

  • Abstract Painting, the Elements of Visual Language by Jane Davies. I am totally and completely smitten with abstract painting so this book was a must have for my art library!

  • The Flower Recipe Book by Althea Harampolis and Jill Rizzo of Studio Choo was a wonderful birthday gift from a friend filled with beautiful floral arrangement inspiration…something I definitely need to learn more about!

  • In the Company of Women by Grace Bonney. Filled with inspiration and advice from 100 makers, artist and entrepreneurs. Joanna Gaines says “These amazing stories will surely spark something deep within us all: the. courage to dream and the fortitude to make those dreams happen.” Yep, I want to be like them when I grow up :)

  • Color Relativity, creating the illusion of light with paint by Kami Mendlik. I am continually learning about creating the illusion of light in my paintings and this book is filled with great advice that I can apply to my painting practice.

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.
