"otis" oil painting demo

1.22.20_animal_cat_otis_6x8xpaper_1400.jpg

Today I painted my sweet cat Otis. I changed things up and painted on arches oil paper. It was very absorbent and that gave the painting a bit of a watercolor feel. I started with a very colorful underpainting (my comfort zone) and then did my final layer with many shades of white and grey. My goal, as always was to retain some of the whimsy of the underpainting, keep the spontaneous brushstrokes showing, and stop before overworking the piece. Mission accomplished.

I paint live most Wednesday mornings at 7 am eastern time on Instagram. Stop by and say hello!
Thanks to everyone who stopped by to watch live. Our group feels like long-time friends, right?
