An obsession

I'm not sure what it is about peonies that make my heart skip a beat…maybe the color, the shape, the nostalgia, or how beautiful they are at every stage of their very short but magical lives…but, as much as I'd like to say I don't have a favorite flower…I think maybe I do.

I’ve heard that peonies represent romance and love and I can certainly see why. They just exude romance, don’t they?

I take hundreds of photos in the few weeks that they are blooming, and may have at least eight different bouquets on my mantle that I collected from all over…because they make me smile. And inevitably, sometime throughout the coming year I will think that I most certainly did not take enough photos to get me through the year.

On Tuesday my husband Mike and I took a road trip to Styer’s Peones (https://styerspeonies.com/) in Chadds Ford, PA , where there are peonies of every variety for as far as you can see. Heaven on earth!

To be honest, I have no idea what it is about them that makes me adore them so much…but I guess that’s just how love works, right? Needless to say, I am enjoying every single minute of peony season…and paintings are a way of keeping them in my heart throughout the year.
