Effortless

Often, when I head down the path where everything just seems to fall into place, it’s because, instead of trying to control the outcome, I am actually doing just the opposite—paying attention to how things are unfolding naturally. Paying attention. Listening. Tricky to do, but it really works.

When I was trimming paper to create paintings for my 2022 yearly calendar, I had left-over scraps of paper. Instead of throwing them away, I had enough paper to make several 4”x4” papers. Much smaller than my favorite 6”x8” size, but definitely useable. And I had lots of them, maybe 30 or so, just because of the math of the page size. So I created a tiny 4” square painting. And it felt fresh and loose and effortless, just what I’m continually aiming for with my art, and life. The first one sold right away, so I did another and that one sold, as well as the third and fourth. Now while I’m having trouble getting my favorite 6”x8” size panels, I now have a new focus, and it was completely by chance. That’s how the best things happen, you just need to be paying attention.

So what I’m saying is listen closely to what the universe is telling you, and do more of what feels effortless—because that’s where the magic lies.

While in the midst of creating my morning minis, I was listening to Danille Krysa aka The Jealous Curator interview with Andy J Pizza (episode 209). They were serendipitously talking about this same exact thing. Doing what feels effortless and following the breadcrumbs that life lays in front of you when you are paying attention. You can listen to it HERE for inspiration:

Do more of what feels effortless! In art and in life!
