Field trip time!

Field trips are the best. And one of the best parts of this new stage in my life, is that instead of going on my kids field trips (which I thoroughly enjoyed), I get to go on my own field trips now!

On Monday I went to the Philadelphia Museum of Art with a few of my dear art friends Ellen, Lisa and Jackie to see the Mary Cassatt exhibit. A field trip, and on a Monday, who does that? ME!!

In the past I would have felt so guilty to leave work to do something fun. But in my defense, I did work most of the weekend prior, even finished a large painting, but that crazy guilt still creeps in. I need to adjust my mindset around this. In the book I am reading “The Artist’s Way, a spiritual path to higher creativity” by Julia Cameron, she suggests going on field trips weekly. And alone. I’m not quite ready to commit to that, but an occasional museum visit with friends is definitely not only important art education, but inspiring and completely necessary to nourish a creative life.

It’s important to fill your creative cup as much as possible and wandering around a museum looking at art is the perfect prescription. I need to expand my art world, which is entirely too small. No matter if you enjoy art, cooking, gardening, whatever your creative outlet, it’s important to keep finding inspiration to make your heart sing. How about you? Do you need to fill your creative cup, too?

It was a great day. No guilt. Art + learning + adventure + good friends = pure inspiration!
