hellebores oil painting demo

One of the first signs of spring! Hellebores, or as I learned during the painting demo, also known as the Lenten Rose, even though they are not closely related to the rose family. I strayed way outside of my comfort zone today and experimented with doing a complementary color underpainting. I think this is more common with acrylic painting because the paint dries so quickly, but why not try it with oils to see what happens, right? I really was wonky looking for a long time, but it was fun to see how it all pulled together in the end...added a bit of intrigue :)
