Painting demo of monarch butterfly
This week’s Wednesday morning Instagram Live was all about capturing the beauty of a monarch butterfly in oil paint! I photographed this colorful butterfly during a recent visit to Cape May, NJ. This coastal area is a popular stopover for migrating monarchs as they make their way south, and the vivid colors and delicate wing patterns were perfect for this demonstration. Watch my process, from mixing colors, to mapping out the composition and layering in the bold hues that make this butterfly so beautiful.
On my YouTube channel, you can see the full journey of this painting, from the first brushstrokes to the “messy middle,” where the painting starts to take shape, and finally to the finished piece. Each stage offers a new challenge and an exciting transformation! If you’re interested in learning more about my painting techniques or just enjoy watching the creative process, be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel. You'll get notified of new uploads, so you won’t miss a single Wednesday Live demonstration. I have also included my photo reference if you’d like to try painting this yourself. Happy painting!
